Updated: April 8, 2007

The Ventura County 99s Chapter was chartered on June 5, 1973 as the Santa Paula Chapter. The seven women who started the Chapter were Gwen Dewey, Maria Whatley, Barbara Deeds, Jill Williamson, Sally Allen, Adrienne Nater, and Norma Williams. Norma had been a member of another Chapter (Southern Sierra in Porterville) and recruited the other members to start the Santa Paula Chapter. She was also the first Chapter Chairman. Barbara McKenna, Roberta Provo, Betty Johnson, and Della Abernathy quickly joined the Chapter after its beginning.

Several members of our Chapter have received Amelia Earhart Memorial Scholarships including Melody Rich, Patricia Turney, Peggy Miller (now Perkins), and Linda Kocisko. The Chapter has honored Gwen Dewey and Della Abernathy with induction into the Forest of Friendship in Atchison, Kansas.
In 1999, the name of the Chapter was changed to Ventura County Chapter to be inclusive of all four county airports, Santa Paula, Oxnard, Camarillo, and Point Mugu Naval Base. The chapter has grown to over 70 members and has a diverse membership which includes businesswomen, teachers, housewives, and airline captains.
Fundraising activities include Pilot Proficiency Classes, plus an annual Silent Auction and Pancake Breakfast at the local EAA Air Show. Our Aerospace Education activiies include Pilot Proficiency Classes and Girl Scout Days for the local council.

Also, at the WayPoint, you will find the "99s Wall" on the left as you enter the front door.
