San Joaquin Valley chapter history

Charter Date: January 1951, sponsored by Bay Cities and Sacramento Valley Chapters.

Affectionately know as "The Squawking' Joaquin's"

The San Joaquin Valley chapter has grown considerably from its original twelve members. Its geographical boundaries have expanded to include members who live not only in the central California valley, but in Marin County, the San Francisco Peninsula, and the Sierra foothills - the women in these more distant areas attracted by the daytime meetings to which they fly each month, the monthly proficiency flights to various California locations, and the camaraderie of this diverse and lively group.

San Joaquin members have participated in all aspects of air racing. Members have acted as timers for the Palms to Pines race fly-bys and the Air Race Classic Start in Santa Rosa in 1977. Each year since its inception the Palms to Pines Race has a fly-by in either Merced or Chowchilla, where the Chapter plays host with luncheon and airport liaison.

Airmarking has been an early and continuing activity for the San Joaquin group. Proficiency flights have taken members and their guest to myriad airports. Often these are combined with a picnic lunch or sightseeing, and serve as one more catalyst to cement the bonds of this unique and spirited group.

And, the chapter sponsors at least one Flying Companion seminar per year.

We are very famous for our valley tomatoes and homemade goodies.
