Coachella Valley chapter history
 

 

Charter Date: November 1, 1949

The charter was organized by Jacqueline Cochran (the 1941 to 1943 Ninety-Nines International President, also the first woman to fly faster than sound).

From the beginning the Coachella Valley Chapter has been composed of Great Lady Pilots:

Winifred Wood Was theWasp-In charge of Western Flying Command. In 1927, she leased the Palm Springs, CA Airport
Mary Nelson Wasp. In1947, she was the director of the Palm Springs Airport
Margret Eccels  
Clema Granger Friend and flew with Amelia Earhart
Bobbie Trout Held First Endurance Record
Vee Nisleey Wasp Instructor
Gladys Davis Operated Crop Dusting out of Thermal, CA

Second Charter July 15, 1961

Zaddie Bunker "World First Flying Great Grandmother to fly a supersonic plane." Jacqueline Cochran "Faster than sound." Dorothy Coleman - Laurie Cummins - Iona Faith Douthitt - Grace Song Line - Hetty F. Rye - Eleanor Wagner "Director of Thermal Airport."
